Removing Unwanted Black (Photoshop)


Greyscale Gradient

If the image is greyscale, then open the Levels dialog (Image -> Adjust -> Levels...). The Output Levels display has a range from 0 to 255. Zero output signifies black. Type "1" into the left box that contains "0". Click the "OK" button.


Green or Red Gradient

If you want to force the black to dark green, then select the Green channel in the Channels Window. If you want to force the black to dark red, then select the Red channel in the Channels Window. The document window now displays the corresponding gradient. Open the Levels dialog (Image -> Adjust -> Levels...). The Output Levels display has a range from 0 to 255. Zero output signifies black. Type "1" into the left box that contains "0". Click the "OK" button. This will force black to become the darkest green or red possible.
