Movements

Selecting Movements

The group of gray icons in the MOVEMENTS panel are movements used to apply the brush on the screen. Click one to make it the current movement. The current movement is highlighted by a green outline.

Loading Movements

Clicking the arrow at the upper right of a movement listing will open a popup menu. Some of these menus have commands at the top. Commands always end with an ellipsis (...). These commands allow you to set the parameters for that movement. Below the commands is a list of movements available on your hard drive that can be loaded. Select the name to load the item into that position. To make the popup menu go away, click anywhere outside of the popup menu.

Previewing Movements on Your Hard Drive

You can preview a movement on your hard drive by pausing the cursor over the name in the popup menu. A preview will appear in the upper left panel of the Controls Window.

Movement Settings Panel

Click the movement icon to open the MOVEMENT SETTINGS Panel. This panel allows you to set the spread of the movement or save a movement set.

Movement Spread Slider: Drag the slider to adjust the movement spread. The spread is defined by the number of pixels traveled every time the brush is drawn.

Movement Set Popup: If you like a certain set of movements, you can save the set to your hard drive and recall the set at any time. You can save the set to any name that is 15 characters or less. When you save a movement set, any movement parameters are also saved. You can load a set by selecting it from the popup menu by name. Once loaded, the set name will display in the text box. However, once a new item is loaded, the text box will display "(None)". The item that was highlighted when the set was saved is made the active item when the set is loaded.

Movement Parameters

Some movements have parameters, which are variable settings which control the movement. When a movement is selected, a random value for each parameter is used to generate the movement. This creates new patterns each time a movement is selected. However, you may want to change or fix the parameter value.

A movement can have up to three parameters. The parameters, if any, for a movement are listed at the top of the movement popup menu. Click on the arrow at the upper right corner of a movement listing to open the movement popup menu. Movements that have parameters will have words or phrases followed by an ellipsis (...) at the top of the movement popup menu. Selecting one of these parameter names will display a parameter panel. To change the parameter for the movement, move the slider in the parameter panel. The screen will reflect the change only if the parameter belongs to the current movement.

You can fix (or lock) a parameter by clicking the "Randomization" button in the parameter panel. The parameter panel is displayed by selecting a parameter name from the movement popup menu. Choosing a movement with a fixed parameter will draw with the current fixed parameter value and will not randomize that parameter. If you change the parameter of a movement by dragging a parameter slider, it will automatically fix (or lock) that parameter.
