INTERNET EXPLORER ISSUES:


Downloading fails.

If you get a message that says, "Internet Explorer could not download 'filename'. The downloaded file is not available. This could be due to your Security or Language settings or because the server was unable to retreive the requested file," then visit Microsoft's support site at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=183506 to see how to fix this situation.


Downloading an installer (EXE) file displays a new page instead of downloading.

If trying to download an installer (EXE) file opens a new page with a broken icon, then Explorer is attempting to open the EXE file instead of downloading the EXE file. You can work around this issue by right-clicking the link and selecting "Save Target As..." from the menu OR click the second icon and download the zipped file instead. Unzip the file and then run the installer.

You can globally correct this issue by editing the Windows registry on your computer. This fix only works for Explorer 5.0 and above. Editing the registry is for advanced users and is only recommended for people who know what they are doing. If you are willing to assume the risk, then do the following: Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Plugins/Extension/.exe key. Backup the key to be safe, then delete the key. Restart your machine.


Downloading a file displays a directory listing.

This issue seems to be specific to Explorer 5.5 on Windows ME. Upgrading to Explorer 6.0 appears to correct the problem. Alternatively, you can work around this issue by right-clicking the link and selecting "Save Target As..." from the menu.


Downloading a gradient file displays a "Open With..." dialog.

To disable the dialog, do the following: From the Start menu, select Settings, then Control Panel. Open the Folder Options control panel. Click the File Types tab. Highlight the GRA extension in the list. Click the "Advanced" Button. Make sure the "Confirm open after download" option is checked. Click the OK button.
